![]() ![]() We’ve talked a lot about Monkey Shoulder by itself, but it was created as a mixing scotch, so we would be remiss to not talk about mixed drinks. You’ll spend a lot of money to find a couple you like. For someone entering scotch, it’s best not to start trying the expensive options and seeing what you like. If you like scotch, and expensive scotch especially, this is a great option that you can drink neat or on the rocks that won’t scorch your wallet. I don’t like buying a 750ml bottle of scotch for $40+ and going through it in a week or two and then having to shovel out another $40+. Are there better scotch whiskies out there for $25? I haven’t found one yet. ![]() Are there better tasting scotch whiskies out there? Certainly. In this section, we compare price and taste to answer the question, is this worth buying? AS you can probably guess based on my taste and price summaries, this is definitely worth buying. I was a little disappointed at the price of a 1.75L because I would definitely buy a full handle to have around as a go-to, but at $65 it’s cheaper to just buy multiple 750ml bottles. Even at $30 this is very competitively priced. Monkey Shoulder 750ml: $25-30 (It was $24 at my local Total Wine in Colorado!!)Īt less than $25 at my local liquor store, this is a steal and my, likely, go-to scotch from now on.Prices may vary depending on location and individual store. Let’s look at what a bottle of Monkey Shoulder will cost. Taste isn’t the only thing that one considers when buying a bottle of liquor, especially so when it comes to scotch since many of the options can get up there in price. Based on taste alone, I recommend picking up a bottle. While it mixes very well, it’s clearly good enough to have neat or on the rocks. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive, yet their website says it is made more mixing. I was curious to see how much I would like Monkey Shoulder after reading about it on their website and reading reviews. It has enough depth and character for those that like good scotch while maintaining an easy and smooth finish that is perfect for entry level drinkers. Actually, its just a very good scotch outright. Monkey Shoulder Taste SummaryĪll in all, Monkey Shoulder is a very good blended malt scotch. A touch of water or ice makes it very easy and nice. Taste: Vanilla and citrus, light hints of spice.įinish: Very smooth. The best place to start is taste, so below we’ll list the flavor profile. Now that we’ve covered some of the history and basics, we can get into the meat and potatoes of this article – the Monkey Shoulder Review. All three distilleries are located in the Speyside region of Scotland. They blended the three together to create Monkey Shoulder. A blended malt scotch is 2 or more single malt scotch whiskies blended together.įortunately for William Grant & Sons, they happened to own three various distilleries that produced single malt scotch – Balvenie, Glenfiddich, and Kininvie. First, a single malt scotch is a scotch whisky made up of entirely 100% malted barley from a single distillery. We keep referring to Monkey Shoulder as blended malt scotch, but to understand what this means, you have to know what it means to be a blend and what it means to be a single malt scotch. Instead, they decided to name their whisky Monkey Shoulder which is the name of a shoulder injury that traditional distillers would get from turning the malted barley with a shovel. Monkey Shoulder was originally going to be named Batch 27, but they didn’t like the ring to it. While the history of William Grant & Sons dates back to the 1880’s we are going to stick to Monkey Shoulder. They own and produce Balvenie, Tullamore Dew, Grant’s, Glenfiddich, Kininvie, Sailor Jerry, Drambuie, Hendricks Gin, and Monkey Shoulder. ![]() If you’re not familiar with William Grant & Sons, you’re likely familiar with their liquor. Monkey Shoulder was created in 2003 by William Grant & Sons as a scotch whisky made to be mixed. If you’re interested in knowing more about Monkey Shoulder and scotch whisky, then keep reading. In this Monkey Shoulder Review, we are going to cover exactly what Monkey Shoulder is, how it tastes, what it costs, and if it’s worth buying. However, Monkey Shoulder is a blended malt scotch whisky that is garnering some attention from fans of scotch across the world. Blended malt scotches, however, aren’t quite as popular as single malt or blended scotch. After that, you have Johnnie Walker leading the way in scotch sales across the world as a blended scotch. Single malt scotch has been the crave of scotch whisky for some time now, and it may always be that way. ![]() ![]() The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which is investigating the complaint, declined to comment. Goldfish are considered a cold-water species and will do best in temperatures between 19-23 C (66.2-73.4 F). You will need to make sure they are well anchored to avoid tipping. The best live plants for goldfish include java fern and anubias. Driftwood is a great start (if only for aesthetic reasons) and live plants are excellent. Goldfish love to taste test and rearrange tank decorations, so whatever you choose, be sure it’s tough. Sand may be preferable but be aware that your goldfish will disturb it regularly, so be sure your filtration system can handle silt. For this reason, you should avoid any sharp gravel but you may opt for either medium to small rounded gravel or sand. Goldfish are curious feeders and will often sift through the substrate by picking up small rocks or shells. Goldfish are also a popular choice for outdoor ponds. Although pairs are certainly preferable, goldfish can be kept alone, so the tables will begin with a single fish. ![]() The below tables represent the required tank sizes for adult goldfish. Longer tanks are better than tall ones, but avoid low boy tanks for goldfish. There should be some water movement and the water should be well oxygenated. Initially, a 75 litre (20 gallons) will be fine while your pets are still young, but you will eventually need to upgrade to at least 114 litres (30 gallons) tank for the slow swimming fancy varieties and 200 litre (55 gallon) for the more active comets and common varieties. Unsurprisingly, the classic ‘goldfish bowl’ is highly unsuitable for the well being of these creatures. ![]() Goldfish can grow up to 20cm (8”) in the fancy varieties and 30cm (12”) in the elongated common variety. Giant danios are also acceptable, but not for the poor swimming fancy goldfish varieties. You should pair your goldfish only with medium-sized, placid, cold water tankmates such as rosy barb, platys and zebra danio. Other factors you will need to consider is the goldfish’s tendency to attempt to swallow whatever fits in its mouth and their need for lower temperatures. Fancy varieties can easily become stressed when paired with fast-moving, boisterous fish, and should not be paired with the standard goldfish varieties like the comet and wakin goldfish. Firstly, goldfish (particularly the fancy varieties) are incapable of defending themselves and are highly susceptible to bullying, fin-nipping behaviours. However, finding a suitable tankmate can be quite difficult for several reasons. They are a great community fish that will get along well with their own kind and rarely cause a problem for suitable tankmates. They are known to interact with their owners and have been shown to retain learned behaviours for up to three months. Goldfish are a placid, confident fish and are (despite common belief) actually quite intelligent. They prefer slow-moving freshwater in cooler climates but can tolerate even muddy low oxygen waters. Originally hailing from East Asia, goldfish are now found all over Asia, Europe and North America, where they are considered an invasive pest species. If you treat your fish pet with the same basic care an aquarist would for any other fish, you should enjoy many years of companionship with these stunning and surprisingly intelligent fish. ![]() They are a low maintenance fish, but this does of course not mean ‘no maintenance’. They are a very hardy fish that can tolerate the kind of mistakes one could expect from a novice, but this hardiness has likely led to the belief that they naturally have very short lifespans, as they may show few signs of stress until conditions become deadly. Usually believed to require only a small bowl and expected to live for a year or two, goldfish are actually very large fish that can live for decades if properly cared for. For simplicity’s sake, Goldfish may be divided into the ‘standard’ and ‘fancy’ varieties, with both potentially reaching 20-30 cm in length (8-12”) and living up to 20 years if properly cared for.Īlthough they are one of the most popular fish in the aquarist’s trade, goldfish are sadly often mistreated by those that simply don’t understand the aquarist hobby. ![]() |
